Better Experience Than Online Guides

I'm still working through my first Morrowind playthrough and this guide has been a near perfect companion so far.

Unlike most other game guides, the author of The Morrowind Prophecies, Peter Olafson, worked with Bethesda developers as he wrote it. This gets the intention of the content across as the creators intended it to.

The guide contains a world map, maps of buildings in Vivec, the largest city in the game, notes on skills and attributes, statistics on common weapons and armor, a bestiary, and quest guides. The first portion of the book is for Morrowind, then a section on Tribunal, and finally Bloodmoon. As a minor note I would have liked to see the Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon weapons and armor sections merged, as a player of the GOTY edition of the game would be able to compare these values more easily. Instead the game and two expansions have their own distinct thirds of the book.

Questing: For questing, this guide is invaluable. Each questline is outlined in great detail. With a physical book, I can flip between faction quests and maps much quicker than with an online guide. It's much easier to track my progress this way; if I haven't played for a few days I can just pick a bookmark and start right where I left off. It's also handy to be able to write notes in the margins and highlight parts to come back to. Like I said, the author worked with the game developers, so the intent of the quests shines through. Instead of "go here, do this," the text reinforces the dialog you'll encounter in the game.

Exploring: The first few pages of the book are dedicated to maps. I found the grid system was easy enough to use. The maps section probably contains 600 areas of interest. Places that are not quest destinations but still worth exploring are noted while leaving some surprise up to the reader (e.g. "This dungeon contains interesting loot.") Groups of monsters are noted as well in case the player wants to avoid them, but this is only important at low levels. I find it far more fun to use the paperback for exploring rather than UESP; UESP can be way too specific which removes the joy of discovery. But, as a minor nitpick, the guide could have cross-referenced locations and quests by page number, and if you're playing at night, the maps can be a little dark.

I'm giving this four stars out of five because there is some information online that you will not find in The Morrowind Prophecies. I still use the UESP map tool when I'm utterly lost; the Google Maps-powered tool is just more specific. I need UESP for a trainer directory when I need to find a trainer. Game mechanics like how enchanting and leveling work are covered much more thoroughly online. If you're the type of player that needs to optimize every last attribute point and drake spent, you'll still need to use an online resource like UESP. However, if you spend all of your time researching where the best loot is and planning the next 10 level-ups to get all of your attributes to 100, you may be missing out on the true experience of the game, which is to live as the Nerevarine.

That's why I prefer using the paperback guide: it keeps me from getting distracted by statistics, mechanics and planned looting. It keeps my head in the game.

Good guide quick shipping

Came as described, used but in good condition. Like most Elder Scrolls fans, Morrowind has a special place in my heart, from the politics in the game and the "go this way for x amount then turn left and head north for x amount and it'll be on the south side of a hill" quest instruction is something that I find lost in newer games with quest compasses and no need to ever look at your map. Skyrim while pretty and a good game in its own right, would never live up to this branch of the series.

*THUD* This thing is like a brick. Since I've started using this, I have only found a single incorrect statement in the original game material and for the life of me, I can't remember it right off. Everything about the game is in here. And, yes, there is a walkthru on playing the main storyline in there as well. It's a pity that the online sites we have today aren't written like this guide is.

The author of The I Hate Mathematics Book celebrates geometric shapes in this informative but visually cluttered addition to the Marilyn Burns Brainy Day series. Her main character, a triangle with gleaming black eyes and a perky grin, leads a full life-it can take the shape of a slice of pie or rest in an elbow's angle "when people put their hands on hips." Yet the triangle aspires to greater complexity, so it asks a "shapeshifter" to turn it into a quadrilateral (the shape of a TV or a book's page), then into a pentagon (a house's facade) and so forth. Burns fails to show that the triangle is "greedy"; it's just adventurous. But her story successfully introduces basic polygons, and her afterword to adults suggests ways of teaching children some of the finer points about geometry (e.g., the concept of a plane or rhomboids). For his picture book debut, Silveria chooses tart shades of yellow, orange, lavender and green. His airbrushed colored-pencil compositions have suitably angular details; speckled paint and multicolored doodles soften the effect but create a sense of disorder. If the art as a whole is somewhat jumbled, readers still come away from this volume noticing and naming the shapes of the objects around them. Ages 6-9.

In this case, Burns give the story a geometric twist: a little triangle who's tired of being a triangle goes to "the shape-shifter," who adds one more side and one more angle, making the little fellow a quadrilateral. It soon grows tired of being a quadrilateral, though, and returns to the shape-shifter to gain another side and angle, and another, and another, until the poor little polygon is almost circular. Eye-zapping graphics, airbrushed acrylics with colored pencil, give the crowded pages some pizzazz. Burns' appended notes for adults discuss the terminology and concepts and suggest activities to increase children's understanding of geometry. Useful, perhaps, as a supplement to the math curriculum. Students in my class love this book!

I work in an inner city school. Believe me when I say that they are a tough group to please! They were absolutely enthralled with The Greedy Triangle! It opened up discussion in the class more than any other book I have read to them this school year. It is colorful, creative and fun. You can have the students use toothpicks and gummy bears to create the greedy little triangle and then change shapes as it metamorphisizes. Food is a great motivator. A fun way to instill a love of both reading and geometry. When the book is over, the kids can be "greedy" and eat their creations. Trust me, they will never forget the lesson.

I am not a huge fan of English courses though they are inevitable. THis book however really breaks down different types of college level writing and provides thorough templates and outline showing just how to use them correctly. It is easy to follow and easy to use.
