C G COOPER does it again! Corps Justice book #6 is well-written, Exciting, and a Fun Read. Enjoy!

C G COOPER has written his best novel in the Corps Justice series with book 6. As a new fan of Cooper's work, I downloaded the first book in this series for FREE, and have since then never looked back. Each new work of fiction gets better and better. Cal Stokes is a character who, although a figment of the author's vivid imagination, is believable, honorable, and someone who the reader can learn to love. His Marine Corps ethic of honor, courage, and commitment is contagious, so all other characters who are under this leader's charge are fun to read about, also extremely believable, and support the storyline.

Now that I've finished all six novels in the Corps Justice series, Lethal Misconduct is my favorite, and I highly recommend buying a copy. The team in this novel lives up to the Corps Justice motto to defend and protect. The discovery of a cancer cure and the threat of a biological weapon keeps the reader expertly entertained until the final page. The reader will want to hate the bad guys and love the SSI team as the plot thickens.

I love how Cooper ends each novel with the "hook" that makes the fan want to buy and read the next unwritten page. I cannot wait until the President of the United States authorizes Cal Stokes and his team into depths of Iraq. On a personal note, my old Marine Corps unit (1st Marines), took care of business in Iraq in 2003 in places like Fallujah and Anbar Province, only to see a group of savages exert their dominance now in 2014. The current state of affairs makes a Marine sick to his stomach. I can only hope that Cooper's fiction results in at least some victories over ISIS or ISIL in the next novel!!

Hidden in the Shadows

A cure for cancer or a terrifying way to commit genocide?

Cal Stokes has left SSI and formed another group designed to enhance the security and freedom of the United States and others.....as needed and agreed upon by President Zimmer. This group is financed by billionaire Jonas Layton and based in Charlottesville. Neil and Dr. Higgins join the group as well as Cal's usual team, Daniel (snake eyes), Trent, and Gaucho with 11 of his operators.

When the team takes on some high ranking individuals in the U.S.Government, they are fighting with a small amount of time to prevent a genocide that is a thousand times worse than what Hitler attempted. This Book 6 of the Corps Justice Series by C. G. Cooper, is filled with suspense and thrills, and leaves us with a feeling there is more good in the world than evil, even though the fight against evil gets harder with each passing year.

I just finished reading ‘Lethal Misconduct’, another fast-moving, intricately threaded, ‘Corps Justice’ book, that keeps you on edge, right to the end. This is a book that you will enjoy, and probably not be able to put down. You won’t be bored, and you will want to read it again.

The author is a master at weaving the threads of a story, yet keeping them straight; interconnecting them, and managing to put an unexpected finish on each thread.

I can usually second guess about 95% of the mysteries and thrillers I read, but, (barring the knowledge that things will work out successfully) the Corps Justice books keep things open to guesswork, through to the end.

I hate long drawn out descriptions and lectures or explanations that are far longer than needed. These books certainly do not come under either of these categories.

I have read all of the Corps Justice books, and several, more than once. Many books, I don't read again, because they are simplistic enough, that I almost know the plot by heart. These are so intricately planned and written, that when I read them again, I am always finding interesting parts that add to the book's interest.

Read this book. You won’t regret it.

Readable, accurate, and useful. A great introductory text, and I only wish it contained more. Highly recommended

God and Heroes of the Celts is an excellent, approachable, rich text that provides a wonderful introduction to ancient Celtic myth, religion, and culture. Sjoestedt discusses the traits of Celtic mythology, the Gods of the Continental Celts, the Mother-Goddess concept (in Ireland specifically), the concept of the Chieftain God, the relationship between the physical and mythical/spiritual world, and the role of the hero within and the hero outside of the tribe. These topic selections cover a great deal of important concepts in ancient Celtic mythology and society, and while the chapters aren't very long, Sjoestedt makes clear and important arguments that are easy to read without being innately obvious or insignificant. My only regret about this book was the length: I wish it had been longer, covered more subjects, and contained more depth (such as contradictions within the myths and more information of the various Gods and Goddess [or God/Goddess types]). Nonetheless, this is a readable, accurate, useful introduction to ancient Celtic religion, and I highly recommend it to the curious reader both as a good read and as a lead-in to further study.

Perhaps the best part about this book is its approachability. The shortness of the text and strength of the arguments could make for a dense, difficult text, but instead Gods and Heroes of the Celts is easy to follow while still containing well-reasoned, strong arguments about the nature of Celtic belief and mythology. The best books on ancient Celtic religion are generally academic texts that can make for difficult reading, and so this text serves a necessary function by introducing the topic and indicating key themes in a way that is accessible to even the newest readers. Despite its place as an introductory text, Gods and Heroes of the Celts isn't basic or obvious: rather, Sjoestedt digs through popular misconceptions and Mediterraneans/Greco-Roman interpretations of Celtic religion in order to make arguments that are informed, accurate, and based in Celtic mythology and culture.

The arguments themselves make up some of the underlying features of an academic, uncontaminated approach to ancient Celtic religion. The concept of the Mother-Goddess is related to the earth and so to natural earth cycles, both creative and destructive; the Chieftain God is related to the Tribe, which must both overcome and work in tandem with the Earth; the heroes are divided into opposing but non-contradictory concepts of of intra- and extra-tribalism; etc. These arguments draw connections between and help make sense of the wide breadth of Celtic myth. Sjoestedt also explains the danger of some previous, popular, faulty interpretations of Celtic myth which interpret Celtic gods from a Greco-Roman viewpoint by either misinterpreting or simplifying gods and goddesses into roles such a sun gods and moon goddesses or else which interpret contradictions as errors and try to reconcile and simplify concepts such as this world v. the Otherworld and the tribal hero v. the non-tribal hero. As such, Sjoestedt's arguments are helpful both by introducing useful, accurate interpretation and by warning the reader away from inaccurate interpretations.

All in all, I very highly recommend this book. I enjoyed reading it and, at such a manageable length, expect to reread it at a later date for a refresher on Sjoestedt's arguments. It is approachable, enjoyable to read, a good introduction and useful guidance (both towards accurate arguments and away from inaccurate ones) and well researched. The translation that I read (the Turtle Island Foundation edition translated by Myles Dillon) seemed to me to be very good: easy to read, and the language felt natural. If ancient Celtic religion interests you, definitely pick up a copy of this book: it's inexpensive, useful, and very easy to read. Your research shouldn't stop here, because the length prevents Sjoestedt from covering a wide breadth of topics or going into great depth, but it is a good read and a great introduction.

Nice, easily digestible book

Nice, easily digestible book. The comparisons to Vedic texts are a little weird, and I didn't find them helpful, since I'm not an expert on that. Does a lot of "but that's a long story not for this time" sort of stuff, but doesn't usually include a good reference to a text where that story might be found. Worth picking up if you're interested in learning about the subject.

Mark J. Boda (PhD, University of Cambridge) is professor of Old Testament at McMaster Divinity College and professor in the Faculty of Theology at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. He is the author of numerous books, including Praying the Tradition and A Severe Mercy, a commentary on 1 & 2 Chronicles, and studies of Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. Helpful read for forming a more robust definition of "repentance."

Not very often do books come along that solely tackle the theme of repentance, and even less those using the entirety of the canonical corpus. But in his new work, Return to Me, Mark Boda does just that, he takes the reader by the hand endeavoring to uncover the meaning of repentance as marked in the various canonical books. And leaving no stone unturned, he does arrive at his destination safely providing the reader with a robust and well-rounded definition of Biblical repentance.

Boda structures his work by first employing the discipline of Biblical theology and dedicating the first (and majority) portion to allow the Biblical writers to shape and give nuance to the theme. It’s only after finishing with Revelation that he begins to flesh out the theological implications of the findings. And in regards to these implications, I found his rooting of repentance within the Covenant relationship most compelling and without stretching its meaning too far or coloring outside the lines. But I appreciate that he didn’t stop there. I think there can be a tendency to only consider one’s inner orientation while remaining somewhat mealy-mouthed about the practical outward expressions. But Boda fearlessly goes on to say this, “what is clear, however, is that, while repentance is fundamentally an inner reorientation of covenant relationship, external changes in behavior are essential to the biblical vision of repentance, and verbal expressions often accompany it” (emphasis mine). I think Boda is correct in his assertion, that there is in fact a reorientation of one’s inner posture but it ought not negate the necessity for having an outward one. But it seems though, that rather than trying to parse out the individual inner and outer aspects or simply create an unnecessary dichotomy, his intentions and desire are to train the mind to understand the interweaving of both.

With any work, though, there is bound to be something that strikes your fancy and stirs in you a desire for more. So my critique (if you would even call it that) of the book here is not so much what he said, but in terms of how much he said. I would have liked to have seen more written on both the divine enabling for repentance as well as a more rich exposition to the sociological aspects. At the end of both sections I simply had more questions than answers. Also, in terms of the “purpose” for repentance, it would have been helpful for him to speak more to the healing psychological effects that repentance brings. James 5:16 is such a weighty verse and seems that much could be said regarding it. I think it would have been helpful to have had a longer discourse surrounding the theme of “healing.” Nevertheless, this book has been tremendously helpful in forming for me a more smooth foundation. I recommend it to anyone with the caveat that the first portion may be a bit difficult and cumbersome for the laity. It seems to me that perhaps laymen would feel more comfortable in the later sections but I could be wrong. But with that said, I’m sure that it will stand to be both a blessing and an aid to the church for years to come providing for those wishing for a more full understanding of repentance its implications for daily living.

The best book on repentance I have ever read!

Wow! That is the best word to describe this book! I ordered it in early August of 2015, and when it came, I began to read it at the post office. Before I knew it two hours had gone by. It is solid Scriptural theology that examines repentance from Genesis to Revelation. Professor Boda discusses this theme of repentance at a time in the history of the church when repentance is being watered down, ignored, and even rejected among some sectors of the church. I wrote a book published at the beginning of this year: A CALL TO RETURN: Restoring the Roots of Our Relationship With Jesus. (call2return.com) I wrote about repentance in a number of places in my book. I wish I would have had Dr. Boda's book as a reference manual! It powerful and revealing. If you want to find out what the Scrpture says about the subject of repentance, this book is in a league of its own! As far as I am concerned, it is a gem and will be the classic on the subject. I've been in ministry since 1975 and was a pastor for 17 years (Florida and Puerto Rico) and have not read a better resource anywhere on the subject. It gets my highest recommendation.

Excellent Resource on Repentance!

This is a wonderful resource on repentance in Scripture. The layout is pretty simple: starting in the OT and ending in the NT, Boda points out the theme of repentance in each genre of Scripture (the Law, the prophets, wisdom literature, etc.). The writing is clear and accurate. Boda does a great job of simply explaining and summarizing what the Bible teaches about repentance. There are excellent summaries at the end of each chapter and section.

I could go on about how good this book is, but rather than read my review, go get the book! If you're looking for a solid Christian resource on repentance in Scripture, this should be at or near the top of your list! (As a side, if you want a solid and more systematic look at repentance to complement Boda's book, check out Thomas Watson's "The Doctrine of Repentance.")

Richard Sigmund was born on March 19, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa. His grandfather was praying as Richard was being born, and the Lord told him, "Through him, I will answer prayer." Whose prayer? The prayer of his great-grandfather, who was a Spirit-filled, Jewish, circuit-riding preacher during the Civil War.The Lord first appeared to Richard when he was four years old. As a child, he started preaching in a country Methodist church in Iowa. His grandfather knew healing evangelist Jack Coe Sr., and Rev. Coe brought Richard to Omaha in 1949 to preach. While the boy who became known as "Little Richard" preached, the anointing came upon him, and he saw angels.When he was about nine years old, he presented the gospel before the meetings of world-renowned evangelist and miracle worker A. A. Allen. Richard was with Allen for about ten years; tutors enabled him to maintain his schoolwork while he was on the road. Also during that time, Richard was with evangelist Lee Girard and presented his testimony during William Branham meetings.In his early twenties, Richard had a fruitful ministry for a time in Phoenix, Arizona, and then held tent meetings with considerable success among the Navajo in northern Arizona and in other revival meetings around the country. In 1974, while he was ministering at a small church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he was declared dead for eight hours after a traffic accident, during which he had his experiences of heaven and hell.Over the years, Richard has preached the gospel through television programs, radio broadcasts, and speaking engagements. He has been in meetings with Kathryn Kuhlman and Oral Roberts, and he was interviewed by Pat Robertson. Richard has ministered in England, Scotland, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, and many other countries. In South Africa, he followed David Nunn and Morris Cerullo in a special series of meetings. It was Rex Humbard who encouraged him to tell his story of a place called heaven.In the early 1990s, Richard met his wife, Priscilla, a fellow native of Iowa. After living in Texas and Missouri, they returned to Iowa, where their organization, Cleft of the Rock Ministries, is now based. Richard is associated with World Bible Way Fellowship.

I highly recommend it.

This book had a profound effect on me, my wife and other who heard it. Most staggering was Bro. Richard's account of meeting people in heaven that I knew on earth (William Branham) and seeing preparations in progress for the arrival of others that I now know, including the account of the building of Dr. Paul Hegstrom's home for his arrival. I just completed taking the Life Skills class that Dr. Paul Hegstrom and Judy Hegstrom founded and it was unique and life changing.
I have had many supernatural experiences with God in my 60+ years here on earth and everything in this book rings completely true to me. I highly recommend it.

like loved ones being able to look down at times ...

Of all that I've read of different ones experiencing Heaven, none strike me as so personable in that time and time again, he just says he doesn't understand it but this is what he saw or heard, even saying there were times, he wasn't permitted to see or know further, or its memory was wiped away [he reportedly had a "photographic" memory]. Along with the the details he gives - several correspond to Kat Kerr's experience, like loved ones being able to look down at times and see important events of our lives, "stores" in Heaven designed exactly for your tastes, mansions in the sky, etc. It's a book, I have read twice and want to keep reading, as if to instill so many of its important details in mind; longing already in my heart for more of Heaven.

Sigmund states he was told by God that he would be alive when the Rapture occurred. [...] Sigmund finally died in Oct 2010. Considering so much of what Sigmund readily admits he didn't understand, couldn't adequately convey, or was forbidden to relate - all speaking to his honesty - one could as well say that what he says here that definitely thought he heard the Lord tell him about being alive when He came for His church, which he really wasn't as clear about as he thought, and in retrospect, we can see that though he is now "dead", he is really more alive than ever in Heaven and will be when the Rapture actually does takes place!

What Sigmund should have given precedence to in considering what he thought he clearly heard and where he really must of misunderstood is that in Scripture, the Lord Himself says no one knows the hour, not even the angels in Heaven, but the Father only, when these things will occur [Matt. 24: 36]. While the Lord here is speaking mostly about the events connected to His second coming, which takes place at least seven years after the Rapture, the Rapture is part of what the Lord had in mind, though such wisely would not be revealed because it was not part of God's program for the nation of Israel, and only then later given first to the Apostle Paul as part of the mystery revealed for the church today or for this dispensation [Rapture will restate God's program for the nation of Israel, which will then follow with the long awaited kingdom age of Messiah's reign on earth from Jerusalem].

Sigmund's experience of Heaven occurred in Oct 1974 or at least 25 years earlier before his interview with Sid Roth and if anything appears "incredible" about Sigmund it is waiting until 2009 to publish it all, unless he had written it earlier in a different way. While he has been accused of maybe "embellishing" the facts, the fact of it all remains, and what he saw would always stay with him, more than what he was told, unless the Holy Spirit "brought it to his remembrance". The many supernatural testimonies others give in relation to Sigmond's experience, his account, and God working through him afterwards make it all even more credible!

At the end of the book, he gives several incidents directly related to either his heightened ministry since the Lord returned him to earth, or others in association with him. One was simply about a group of soldiers, caught behind enemy fire during the Iraq war, thinking they were all going to die, having no Bible but one had a copy of this book and as they were all listening to it being read, they suddenly heard a loud thud! Peering over their embankment or wall, they saw the enemy all fleeing. They escaped then from there, too. The next day or so, some of these enemy were captured and asked why they ran? What they heard was amazing! They had suddenly seen huge men in the sky with fiery swords and one brought his sword down and literally split the wall! Needless to say, these warriors were sent by God and no doubt in direct relation relation to the testimony of Sigmund about Heaven.

Wow, What A Book!!!!

When I received this book I couldn't put it down. Will reread it over and over as a reminder of what is in store for those that Love the Lord. I have read other books over the years that has had some of the things he saw and heard, but never one that had so many things I never heard. Eye has not seen, nor ears have heard the things that God has prepared for those that love him. But God has revealed them onto us by his Spirit. He is also in these last day's has been revealing them to many of his people like this brother who has now gone onto Glory!.

mini orchids

Probably better in hard copy

I do like this book, but the Kindle edition that I bought has Issues. The layout of the text is poor with sections chopped up or run together, and the resolution on the photos is also poor - when enlarged they are so pixelated as to be useless but many of them are too small to see all the details otherwise.
I like this book enough that I would like to get the hard copy at some point - I found it informative without being overwhelming in terms of specific notes on each plant. Enough info to give you the basics of caring for each type without getting pedantic about it.

This book is average in its content and lacks any details, it is comparable to "New Encyclopaedia of orchids" which in itself is very average. I would rather recommend other readers to go for "Flora's orchids" or "Botanica's pocket ORCHIDS". For those who prefer content based literature and actual information for cultivation, one should consider "Understanding orchids" or "Four Seasons of orchids".
