About the Author

Mr. LIN JIANJUA was born in Indonesia 1953 and came back to China with his family in 1954. He began to learn Chinese martial arts in 1964. He entered the Physical Education Department of Fujian Normal University in 1973 and studied Chinese Martial Arts under the direction of Professor Guo Minhua. In 1979, Mr. Lin entered Wuhan Institute of physical Education to learn Form and Will Boxing (Shing-Yee-Ch'uan), Eight-diagram Palm (Bagua-Ch'uan), Taijiquan (T'ai-Chi-Ch'uan) and other excellent techniques from Professor Wen Jingming and Professor Liu Yuhua, the famous martial artists of China.

On graduation from Fujian Normal University in 1976, Mr. Lin began his career in universities as a martial arts teacher. He worked in the Physical Education Department of Fujian Normal University from 1978 to 1983, and he has worked in the Physical Education Department of Amoi University since 1983. During the past eighteen years, Mr. Lin has taught many students Chinese martial arts, some of whom came from Japan, America, England, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore and The Philippines. He has once been invited to Ateneo University of The Philippines to give a lectures of Chinese martial arts.

Mr. Lin Jianhua is now a council member of Fujian Martial Arts Association, the vice-president of Amoy Martial Arts Association, the president of Martial Arts Association and the Research Society of Taijiquan of Amoi University, and the chief coach of the martial arts team of Amoi University. As a national grade judge of martial arts, he has executed his duties in many national or international contests of martial arts.

Book could easily be improved

This is on Ok book. It lacks in two things: 1. Proper editing. I don't believe words are mistranslated- they are misspelled. This is the editors fault. 2. Better pictures- The pictures on the outside cover of the book are great- but the insided pictures leave a lot to be desired. They are grainy black and white photos that look like old newspaper photos. They allow you to get the general idea of a posture or stance but details of a particular technique are lost.

Well worth the money

I have been practicing Xingyiquan for over two years now and find this book a great help. The pictures are a bit overexposed, but you can figure them out. If you are looking for a book with pretty pictures to put on your coffee table, go somewhere else.
But if you want to learn Xingyiquan, there are not much better sources, than this book.
I have read some bad reviews on this particular book that almost made me not buy it, but I did anyway. And I am glad I did.
Someone said that their teacher told them that there isn't ONE CORRECT movement in the book.
To me, this sounds a bit arrogant. And it would be tough to make a book on Xingyiquan without ONE correct movement. I think that that person who wrote that review has an instructor who knows nothing about Xingyiquan.
If he did know about Xingyiquan, he would know that there are plenty of different styles to the art. And that they are ALL done in somewhat different ways.
My instructor is a Master in all the internal arts and said the book was very good. This coming from a man who wrote his own book on the subject.
The thing one has to understand about ANY marital arts, is that there are different branches. This doesn't happen to be from my branch, but it does not mean that I cannot learn from it.
The intent of the art is there, and that is the important thing.
Even forms from Teacher to Student, things can change to a certain degree.
But this book (Bad Photo's aside) is one of the best books on the subject. It is jammed with precise information and is well worth your time and money. I have over two hundred books on Martial Arts (Mostly Chinese MA) and find this one to be one of great value.

Solid Content, Poor Production Quality

It's a shame that this book couldn't have been cleaned up a bit. The translation is awkward, and the pictures are too light. Having said that, I must admit that I really like this book. Books on Hsing-i are not as hard to find as they used to be, but most today choose to cover the same old material. The five fists are included here, as well as the twelve animals, but the author goes on to further cover a couple of forms not available in other English language books. The photos are excellent in CONTENT, but as I said before, they're too light. Still one may overlook the shortcomings of the book and concentrate on the positives. This book would be best read after reading Robert W. Smith's book on the same topic (preferably the original version, if you can find it).

Necessary to better understanding Bach

Apparently Bach may very well have been a cantankerous fellow according to this author. Nevertheless, Bach's music is still my favorite. The author also mentions that not all of Bach's music is excellent and at the genius level, some is humdrum in his opinion.

I love the great questions but SO MANY ANSWER ERRORS! Especially in the opthal/oto section. Such a shame this wasn't edited well because the questions are spot on and informative. I still find it useful for question practice but be sure you read the answers. Often the letter for the answer is wrong.

When I received this book, I opened it to a random page and picked a question. The explanation/answer was not correct, as mentioned in previous posts. I used a previous edition of this book to study for my initial certification several years ago and noticed an error or two, but this edition is much worse. What a shame.

"I like that this book covers a wide range of topics related to color theory. Beginning with the physiology of the human eye and continuing on all the way through to digital color it really does cover a wealth of information about color."

About the Author
Steven Bleicher is a tenured professor in the Visual Arts Department at Coastal Carolina University. After receiving his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Pratt Institute, Professor Bleicher worked and taught at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture; the State University of New York; Brooklyn College; and Marian College. He also served as a senior faculty member in the Arts and Humanities Program at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and was assistant dean of the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In addition to teaching, Professor Bleicher is active as a visiting lecturer and consultant on color psychology for clients including Staples, Inc., and The Savannah College of Art and Design. He is also an accomplished artist whose work is included in many major collections and has been widely exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

Required reading for Digital Color Theory course. Course was good. Book could have been better.

Bought this for a digital color theory class and it did the job. Was required reading for the course. Thought it could have been better. There's a lot of reinforcement of the same concepts (Expected. Most textbooks have a few points they need to keep driving home, for good or for ill.). Lots of fluff though, almost to the point of filler. Thought it would be better use of space (and my money) to expand further on some of the theories than to fill up pages saying the same thing multiple ways before arriving at the point. Four stars for having it in kindle format. Love e-textbooks. The search feature allows you to cut through most of the fluffy bits and extract the necessary info.

Terrific book for retired physicist

I understand this is a textbook for art students; and for that purpose its a good beginning book. As a retired physicist I understand the physics of light. However, this book helped me understandable color theory applied to my hobby using Adobe PhotoShop. It was well worth the full price of the book.

A great book...

For those who want to understand color theory. Bought new and no complaints so far! the price was a little high for a nonrequired volume, but it will be worth it
